Our Unreached People
Worldwide there are approximately 6,600 remaining unreached people groups (UPG). A UPG is an ethnic group where the evangelical Christian population is less than 2% and where they have no access to the Gospel. It is our heart and goal to strategically "adopt" an unreached people group somewhere in the world and focus our energies and resources toward seeing that people transformed by the love of Jesus Christ and ultimately see a reproducing church established in their primary language and culture.
Toward that end, in 2003 we started a program called "Hope 4UPG" where our congregation focuses our prayer and attention each month on a different UPG in the world. It was during this process of continued mission education, that we begain praying for God to lead us to and show us the way forward in focusing our attention on a particular people as a stratigic mission initiative.
In 2007, after 3 years of researching and prayer, our fellowship decided to move forward in formally adopting the Birhor people of central India. The Bihror are a nomadic tribe of people that have largely forgotten by the government and range in size from approx. 10,000 to as high as 60, 000, depending on the information you read.
These Dalit people (untouchables) are increasingly being knitted in the hearts of our congregation and we desire to see a reproducing vibrant church established among the Birhor. Our heart's desire is best proclaimed in Psalm 96:3, "Delcare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples."
